Abstract

It has low self-regulated learning, which results in various academic problems.  This study aims to test the effectiveness of symbolic modeling with alam takambang jadi guru to improve student self-regulated learning. The research was carried out experimentally using a single-subject design. The design used is baseline–intervention–maintenance. The population in this study is students who are taken using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument of this research is a self-regulated learning scale with a high reliability level. The results showed that subjects at the baseline stage did not understand alam takambang jadi guru. At the intervention stage,  counseling was given to the symbolic modeling technique containing alam takambang jadi guru. There is no latency and the level increases. The level of understanding of the Minangkabau culture of students continued to increase until the final session of the intervention stage, which impacted the change from a low category to a high category. Furthermore, intervention is not given at the maintenance stage and the level increases. This pattern indicates that previously performed interventions were successful or effective. Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that counseling the symbolic modeling technique with alam takambang jadi guru improves students'  university self-regulated learning. Therefore, counselors in universities can use this counseling technique.
